In
our continuing effort to educate the public regarding Bluegrass and with hope of
passing this unique form of American music on to younger generations the
Appalachian Fiddle & Bluegrass Association offers a scholarship program for
youths up to 18 years of age who would like to take music lessons. The guidelines of the program and qualifications
are listed below. If you would like to
be considered for the Scholarship program please read the guidelines and submit
an application on the attached form.
Guidelines and application forms are also available on the AFBA’s web
site.
Guidelines:
1) The AFBA will award scholarships on a first come, first served basis to qualified
student applicants if funds are available.
2) The AFBA will reimburse up to 50% of
each lesson up to a maximum of $20.00.
3) Reimbursement will be approved upon
receipt of copies of canceled checks or a copy
of
a paid receipt from the Instructor/Teacher.
4) Applications will be accepted at any time and will be reviewed by the Scholarship
Committee at the next regularly scheduled AFBA meeting.
5) The Scholarship committee shall make recommendations to the membership at a
regular meeting of the AFBA and the membership shall approve or deny the
application.
6) The Chairperson of the Scholarship Committee or the Secretary of the AFBA shall
inform the applicant in writing of the decision of the members.
If the application is denied the letter shall state the reason(s).
7) The experience and qualifications of the Instructor/Teacher shall be taken into
consideration in evaluating an application for a scholarship.
Qualifications:
1) Student applicants age is through
18 years old.
2) Applicant must take lessons on one
of the traditional Bluegrass instruments.
These include: guitar, banjo, bass fiddle resophonic guitar,
mandolin or fiddle.
3) Applicants are expected to appear at
the AFBA festival in August to demonstrate what
they have learned.
